The Goat Hill Overlook

Combining history and an array of scenic views, the Goat Hill Overlook represents one of the more unique places to visit in the area. Head into Lambertville, NJ make a right off of George Washington Road and after a short walk up the hill you will arrive at Goat Hill. This extraordinary vantage point gives a bird’s eye view of the Delaware River extending for miles in both directions including the magnificent riverfront properties along the way.

However, in the past there was a famous American hero who used this spot for more than just sight-seeing.

Legend tells us George Washington, the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, used this elevated position to plan his attack on Trenton during the Revolutionary War. There is even a small rock with foot-shaped impressions so you can stand where he stood and pretend you are bravely directing an army across the river.

Since the time of Washington, there have been bridges built to offer a simpler route between the two small river-front towns of New Hope, PA and Lambertville. These communities have come together in bringing back the Friday Night Fireworks spectacle where they shoot off fireworks over the river every Friday at 9pm until August. This event fills both towns with people from all over coming to enjoy the shopping, dining, and a glimpse of the extravagant fireworks.

Unfortunately the popularity of this event always has people fighting for prime real estate to get the best view of the show.  Goat Hill gives a stunning view of the bustling towns below, the bridge constantly crossed by ant-sized people, and its elevated status allows you to see the fireworks as if they are right in front of you. Instead of trying to bend your neck backwards at impossible angles, you can bring your lawn chair, some close friends and family, and comfortably enjoy the fireworks

Whether you need theater seating for a fireworks show, or you’re trying to form an attack plan against a rebel army, Goat Hill is the place for you. Protected for public use by the Department of Environmental Protection Green Acres program anyone is welcome to enjoy Goat Hill as they see fit. From the opposite shore Goat Hill seems like a small gap in the mess of trees, but from the top it is a beautifully historic location that can be appreciated at any time of the year.
