On September 24, 2017 the Travis Manion Foundation will host its 10th annual 9/11 Heroes Run in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, which is the oldest 9/11 Heroes Show More...Run in the world. The 9/11 Heroes Run, now a worldwide, annual event hosted in over 51 locations across the United States and abroad, began in Doylestown in 2007 to unite the community in remembrance and appreciation of the sacrifices of the heroes of the September 11th attacks and in the wars since. The Doylestown race has grown from 200 runners in its inaugural year to more than 2,700 runners and walkers in the 2016 race.
The Doylestown 9/11 Heroes Run 5K race will take place at Fonthill Park (located at the corner of Swamp Road and Court Street in Doylestown, PA 18901). Registration is open for both the 5K and the 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk, and runners and walkers of all levels and ages are invited and encouraged to participate. The opening ceremony, which precedes the run/walk, will begin at 1:00pm, the family-friendly 1M fun run/walk will begin at 1:45pm, and the 5K race will begin at 2:00pm. Day-of registration closes at 12:30pm.
Proceeds from the 2017 Doylestown 9/11 Heroes Run will benefit Doylestown Fire Company #1, Central Bucks Regional Police Foundation, the Travis Manion Foundation and The Colby Umbrell Memorial Fund.
In 2016, the Doylestown 9/11 Heroes Run alone raised over $149,919.89. Of the funds raised, $123,423.89 was donated to the Travis Manion Foundation and its Character Does Matter Program. The Character Does Matter Program engages veterans and families of fallen heroes to inspire young adults to live with character, develop their leadership skills, and activate them to serve their communities in honor of fallen heroes. In addition, the Doylestown 9/11 Heroes Run was proud to support numerous local service organizations, including: $9,000 to Doylestown Fire Company #1; $5,000 to 1st Lt. Colby Umbrell Memorial Fund; and $5,000 to the Central Bucks Family YMCA Veterans Pathway program. Additionally, proceeds from the race supported Cpl. William Doucette, Ofc. David Carlen, Bucks County Parks and Recreation, Fonthill Museum, and the Quakertown Borough Police K-9 Unit.
The 9/11 Heroes Run series was inspired by Marine 1st Lt. Travis Manion (USMC), a Doylestown native who was killed by a sniper in Iraq in April 2007 as he selflessly protected his battalion. Before his final deployment, Travis visited Rescue One in NYC-famous for losing almost all of their men on 9/11-and returned home with deeper passion about why he was fighting in Iraq. At its heart, the 9/11 Heroes Run is a tribute to Travis' personal commitment as well as all America's heroes from September 11th and the wars since.
Reflecting on Travis's life and character, Christopher Manion - Travis's uncle, an original founder of the 9/11 Heroes Run, and 2017 Race Director - stated, "Travis was a selfless person who always made people feel like they were important to him. He lived that way until his final heroic act, and he was a great example of those who serve. We should never forget our brave men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country."
Registration is now open for the run/walk. To learn more, to register, and to donate, please visit http://www.travismanion.org/tmf_911run_race/doylestown-911-heroes-run/.
Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) is a qualified 501(c)3non-profit that empowers veterans and families of fallen heroes to develop character in future generations. In 2007, 1stLt Travis Manion (USMC) was killed in Iraq while saving his wounded teammates. Today, Travis' legacy lives on in the words he spoke before leaving for his final deployment, "If Not Me, Then Who..."
Guided by this mantra, veterans continue their service, develop strong relationships with their communities, and thrive in their post-military lives. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation's heroes live on in the next generation.

He was also well known for his work in stained glass. In addition to a significant investigation of Sotter's nocturnal landscapes, Light and Shadow will present the various other types of landscape he produced throughout his career, and will introduce his work as a stained-glass artist, and examine the artistic exchange between the media in which he worked.
